An Update

It seems like an age since I wrote a proper blog but I think it’s a good time for an update.

It’s funny how you get moved to write something sometimes, today the idea to do this came out fully formed in 20 minutes of walking Toby around Bewdley this morning (check out his recent run in with the cat flap below). Other times you can sit and stare at a screen for an hour with that ever blinking cursor with nothing to say or write. Maybe that’s the solution, walking rather than staring at a screen.

Anyway, first a quick situational report. 2020 is looming over the horizon and what with one thing and another it’s going to be a big year! Niki and I getting married is obviously the biggest but there are many more milestones.

I’ve recently had a broken thumb which has put me out of rugby and any other serious training for 6 weeks. I was able to train one handed but you’re never able to handle the same kind of weight obviously. After having the cast removed I’ve been able to start picking a barbell up again but that is still limited by my grip strength.
I have enjoyed being able to use it as a restart point though. Stripping trading back to light loads and focusing on technique rather than weight lifted. Gradually increasing the load as I feel everything improve.

It’s good to put yourself in a beginners mindset now and then.

Exclusive Gym are about to start our 12 Days of Christmas workout challenge. This year each of the trainers have designed a Christmas themed workout to run on a weekly basis. You might come across these in a session or two with me!

I’ve recently started Saturday morning Bootcamp classes in Bewdley too, which have been fun but muddy. Of the 5 sessions so far it’s rained completely for 4 of them. It’s made me think imaginatively in term of exercise choice when you have star jumps planned but the risk of doing the splits in the grass is too high! This weekend looks dry though.

I have a week of from work this coming week to enjoy, amongst other things Harry Potter World.

My personal action points for this week:

  • Drink more water

  • No phone before bedtime

  • Make homemade soup
